Artist Statement

I have been living with a disability since I was a baby when I contracted poliomyelities at the age of 6 months old. I also spent 10 years as a homeless woman, and have overcome drug and alcohol dependencies and experienced a range of other abusive and self destructive situations.

What is most important though, is I have been able to turn my life around through persevarence and a strong desire for positive change.

As a single mother, I have raised a beautiful daughter and I have also put myself through tertiary education to become an artist. I recently Held an Exhibition of over 50 pantings based on my life journey titled " Beauty behind Darkness" held at the Tanks Arts Centre.

I received so much encouragement and positive feedback from the public and the media, this has giving me courage and inspiration to carry on as an artist.

I have been influenced by Frida Kahlo's work and personal story as I feel there are parallel similiarities to my work and life story.
